Dear Sir

Thank you for your inquiry.
I will try to clarify some details to understand what you need.
You ask for lamps type ELM 01 SDM. This is lamp with handle. For exploration
you need to have the hands free. Usually for mines clients ask for ELM 01
SD. This is a lamp with the battery attached to the belt and the head
attached on the helmet of the user, with a cable to connect this two parts.
ELM 01 SDM is made for group II so for surface use where explosive gases and
dust is present.
ELM 01 SD is for underground use. We have M2 lamps for less then 2 % methane
and M1 for more than 2% methane.

I send you attached the datasheet of the lamp type ELM 01 SD M2 made with
NiCd 4.5 Ah battery.

ELM 01 SD can be equipped with battery NiCd (4,5 Ah capacity) or NiMh (4.5,
7 or 9 Ah capacity).
Depending on the battery autonomy is:

Phase LEDs 4.5 Ah 7 Ah 9 Ah
I 1 W LED 12 20 26
II 3 White LEDs 48 70 90
III 1 W + 3 White LEDs 10 15,5 20

Charging is made with 12 V DC. We have individual chargers from 230 V or
racks for 10, 50 or 100 lamps.
There is possibility to adapt an old charger using a kit for the contacts
you need to connect the lamps and electronic.
You can use the voltage of 12 V you have on the car. You can mount our kit
even on the car panel.

Please ask as many question you need to have all details clarified.

Hier der Text aus dem Katalog:

DESCRIPTION:
The mining lamp type ELM01-S/D 4.5Ah is a lamp designed for working
environment with potential explosive atmosphere (especially for coalmines) and is
certified according EN 62013-1 and EN 62013-2.
The lamp has two distinct parts: the battery and the cap lamp. The worker is not
disturbed in his activity by the lamp because the battery can be attached to the belt and
the cap lamp to the helmet. Proper choice of the materials and the good executions
indicate this lamp to be use in very hard working environments. Normal degree of
protection is minimum IP 54 so it protected from dust without pressure and protect
against water drops that reach from all direction.
THE BATTERY:
The battery uses 3 cylindrical NiCd cells. We provide the lamp with protection
against short-circuit, over charging, over current and thermo cut off. These protections
are in the cover of the battery and in the battery case.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
• Number of cells 3 pc
• Capacity 4.5 Ah
• Nominal tension 3.6 V
• Medium life 1500 cycle
THE CABLE
• Is made from two cooper wires twist together around a rope. The rope is placed
in the middle and is function is to take the traction efforts from the cable.
• The cable coat is made by silicon rubber, very flexible but also fireproof and fat
acid proof.
THE HEAD:
The head uses 1 W white LED for main luminous source and 3 high intensity
LED’s for secondary source. The head has three white LED’s in the middle, one RED
LED on the left and one GREEN LED on the right. The color LED’s are used for
signals. There are 4 levels intensity that can be changed with a pushbutton. In order to
change the light phase the user must press the button and the light will begin to change
in 3 levels. After the three levels if the users push the button the 5 LED’s will indicate
the autonomy of the lamp. This function allows knowing how much time the lamp will
work.
For focusing the light we use a special lens and are obtained minimum 1500 lux.
The medium live of the LED’s is 100000 hours.
Inside the head is an electronic device based on a microcontroller witch has the
next functions:
• Change the luminous intensity of the lamps, by changing the number of LED’s in
light. In this case we obtain 4 levels: 1W LED, 3 high intensity WHITE LED’s,
all WHITE LED’s in light and the last level which indicate the autonomy.
• Automatically turn off the light when the battery is in charger
• Automatically turn off the light after a number of hours considered autonomy of
the lamp, to prevent over discharging the battery.
• Automatically turn off the lamp if the tension of the battery is lower that 3 V or
higher that 4.7 V, to prevent damaging the lamp.
• After 80% of work, the LED’s signal that the battery has only 20 % capacity.
This tells to the user that it rest few hours of working on the highest lighting
phase or more hours on the lowest lighting phase, depending on the battery used.
In this case the miners take the decision to use witch phase he consider,
depending on how many hours he will stay in the mine.
• After 99% of work, the LED’s signal again to tell to the user that the light will
turn off automatically and he will have to find a safe place.
• Set the right current for each phase, in order to obtain the right current for each
LED
• Prevent the appearance of current between the two terminals used for charge,
because it use a diode
• Count the number of cycles of battery charge/discharge and signal after reaching
the 1500 cycles. Signal every time when the lamp is take from the charger that
the 1500 cycles are made and the RED LED is in light all the time when the lamp
work.
• Count the number of incomplete charging cycles and after 30 incomplete cycles
signal. This signal will indicate that the lamp must be complete discharged and
charged. This is possible in the charger is the button is pushed more that 5
seconds but only if the condition of more that 30 incomplete cycles is TRUE. If
the 30 cycles are made the GREEN LED is always in light when the lamp work.
• Allow the complete discharge of the lamp in the charger, manually or
automatically ordered. The discharging time depend on the capacity left in the
battery
• Is design allow to transmit data to a main computer
• On the same board there is a charger witch control the charging process.
On the head is a metal clamp used to attach the head to the helm of the miner.
Because the charging is made through the head, for the charging it is use two
terminals. The (-) terminal is the metallic clamp used to attach the head to the helm and
the (+) terminal is placed on the case of the head, under the clamp. Between this
terminals is the data transmission terminal.
AUTONOMY:
Depends on the number of LEDs in light:

II 45 hours 3 white LEDs
III 10 hours 1 W + 3 white LEDs

CHARGE
• Is made with an individual charger or with a multiple charger for 100 lamps.
The charging voltage can be between 8.5 and 15 V but it is recommended to
be 12 V dc.
• The charging is supervised by the same microcontroller which control the
LED’s and signalize:
􀂃 Alternative blinking RED - GREED – the protection diode, against
appearance of the tension at the charging terminals, is broke
􀂃 The 5 LED’s signal the level of charging. If only the RED LED is in
light that means that the charging was made between 0…25 %. If the
RED and the first WHITE LED is in light that means that the battery is
charged between 25 and 50 %. If the GREEN LED is in light that
means that the battery is 100 % charged and the charging is made in
impulses for maintaining the level of 100 % charging.
• The time of charging depend of the time of discharging of battery. This takes
count of the time of LED’s working. It was considered a 60 % efficiency of
charging.
• The current for charging is 450 mA
INDIVIDUAL CHARGER
Is recommended for working places where
there are only few users and is too
expensive to buy a full charger rack. This
charger can be plug to 220 V/50 Hz.
CHARGER RACK
Is made for 50 or 100 lamps.
CHARGER ADAPTER

Is designed to adapt any type of existing charger for ELM lamps.
The kit for transforming the charger contains a mechanical adapter, wires, transformer
adapted for number of charging places, bridge on radiator, capacitors for each post.
The characteristics of transformers are:
o Output Voltage 12 V
o Power 15 VA for each lamp from the charger so for 100 lamps you will
need a transformer of 1500 VA at 12 V
o For electronics is enough to use only diodes bridges for rectifier with
capacitors of 1000 μF for each charging post
DATA COMMUNICATION
For data communication we use the – terminal from the head of the lamp and the middle
terminal. There are individual devices and systems or chargers. The communication is
in both ways so we can collect data about the lamps and we can send data to the lamp.
INDIVIDUAL DEVICE
This device was designed for service operations. It can be connected to the computer on
a serial port. Use software under any Windows platform.
EXPLANATION:

C800 - number of total cycles made with the battery
C30 - number of incomplete cycles made with the battery
ET LEDS - lamp autonomy on small phase
ET GLON - Emitter autonomy
BATT - voltage measured on the microcontroller

PROGRAMMED ON - day and hour when the microcontroller was programmed
RESET TYPE
BOR number of RESETS made because the voltage on the microcontroller
has decreased under the level of good functioning.
MCR number of hardware RESETS of the microcontroller (theoretically
this occurs when one terminal of the microcontroller is on the
GROUND - not possible in practice)
POR number of RESETS made because the power has been disconnected
TOR RESET made because of WATCH DOG
QUERY - Interrogation button
EXIT - EXIT button
^ - becomes GREEN when the lamp is in the charger and it being charged
∨ - becomes RED when the lamp is in the deep discharge charger mode
X - command of deep discharge (the same function like when you push the
button from the head for 15 seconds while in charger)
DATA TRANSMISSION FOR CHARGER RACKS
The system can control 8, 100 or 128 lamps from a charger. The square will have the
colour:
- RED – the lamp is in DEEP DISCHARGE mode or the number of
battery cycles is more that 800 or the number of incomplete cycles is
30 or more that 30
- Dark GREEN – the lamp is charging
- Light GREEN – the lamp is 100 % charged
- WHITE – is no lamp in that charging post
- GRAY – the lamp is IDLE if the lamp is in the charger but the charger
is OFF
Communication is made in a cycle with a step at 1 second but if the user what to check
a lamp in the charger he can right click on that square and that lamp will be verified.
When you move the mouse over one square a small window appear for the lamp with
data about the number of cycles and autonomy. If you double click on a square you will
obtain the data for the lamp in that charging post.
EXPLANATION:

The system is very flexible and can be adapted to collect data about all the movement of
the lamps from the chargers. A database can be created with history for every lamp.
THE MAIN ADVANTAGES OF THE LAMP ARE:
• Life of the LEDs - about 50 years of normal use
• The lamp is small, light and very ergonomic
• Lamp characteristics are very flexible regarding autonomy and light intensity
• The lamp requires no maintenance for at least 3 years
• The color of the LED light is bright white and does not change if the battery is
low
• The temperature of the LEDs is lower than the temperature of a filament light
bulb
• The LEDs do not need a reflector to focus the light; the beam of light is obtained
with a lens
• The cells used for the battery are dry cells, so the battery does not need regular
service and has no electrolyte leakage
• The charge can be made with an individual, with a multiple charger or in your
own charger adapted for ELM lamps
• There is the possibility of communication with a computer
• The charging is controlled so the life of the battery reach the maximum possible

Hallo,

hier noch einige technische Details von den Optimac Lampen aus Südafrika (email ganz aktuell von heute):

Hi Alexander
Yes there are differences but the differences are not notice-able by the
human eye.

The H1:
4.4aH battery- will last 12-14hrs when fully charged
Has a 80lumens LED fitted

The H2:
6aH battery-will last 13-15hrs when fully charged
Has a 100lumens LED fitted.

Although these differences seem significant, for normal use it doesn't make
a difference to the user, both are very bright and will last longer than a
normal shift.
The biggest difference between the two is in the battery-management software
that is included in the H2 but not in the H1. This in principle means that
the H2 will give you constant light output even though the battery is
running down, whereby the H1 will dimm as the battery becomes weaker later
in the shift.

Ich habe mich dann für die H2 entschieden, die zur Zeit nicht lieferbar ist. Mal sehen, ob ich bei meinem Besuch Anfang Oktober schon eine Lampe mitbringen kann ...

Öhm, noch einen weiteren Aspekt...

Ich will für die Firma einige "Northern Light" ohne Kabel und mit integriertem Akku im Lampenkopf besorgen. Die sind irgendwie verbessert worden. Ist dann auch nicht aus Südafrika su shippen, sondern per Post aus Österreich. Preise habe ich noch nicht.

Also - an der H2 hätte ich auch interesse. Es ist halt eine Frage der Philosophie, ob man die Funzel mit Akku am Gürtel haben will oder nicht. Bei unseren ganzen Schächten ist mir das irgend wie lieber.

So, die Lampen sind da. Die folgenden Preise gelten für drei bestellte Lampen, insbesondere die Transportkosten können sich ändern, da gewichtsabhängig. Zum Zoll kann ich nichts sagen, da ich (bisher???) keinen Zoll gezahlt habe, obwohl auf dem Paket ein "verzollt"-Stempel war ...

Versand für drei Lampen mit TNT: € 85,35

Der Versand hat drei Tage gedauert (bei Abholung bei TNT in Berlin)

Der erste Eindruck ist sehr ordentlich; ich habe sie allerdings noch nicht benutzt...
